The police in Anambra State on Tuesday arrested two suspects who allegedly used abducted children for alms begging in Onitsha.
The suspects, the police said, made N25,000 daily from the act. The suspects, who had since been detained at the Onitsha prisons, claimed to be members of a humanitarian group. They were arrested by the Fegge division of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Fegge Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Rabiu Garba, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects were notorious for using abducted children for alms begging in locations different from their states after inflicting injuries and ailments on them to attract public sympathy.
The incident confirms the continuation of a fraudulent scheme similarly exposed in 2016 when a group posing as members of a charitable Nongovernmental Organisation were exposed as callous individuals using a very sick child to feather their own nest. The difference in the latest dase however is the willingness of the Police to become active in the arrest and possible prosecution of these fraudsters. READ MORE
