WHO IS A COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS?

A commissioner for Oaths is that person that has been appointed and sworn in to administer Oaths.

WHO IS ENTITLED TO AN OATH?

The general public. Except lunatics, persons of unsound mind and children.

HOW IS AN OATH ADMINISTERED IN AFFIDAVIT?

Affidavit forms are now to be produces and printed electronically and stamped only by designated Commissioner for Oaths in such designated locations in the presence of the deponent.

HOW MUCH IS AN OATH FEE?

Henceforth, the sum of N500.00 is the oath fee approved to be paid in the Bank/Cash point in the Court.

WHAT ARE THE COMMON TYPES OF AFFIDAVITS?

• General Affidavit (Form ‘A’)

• Declaration of Age

• Declaration of Marriage

• Affidavit of change of Name

• And many others as provided/prescribed by the Oaths Act; 1990

CONSEQUENCES OF OBTAINING AFFIDAVIT NOT DULLY SIGNED BY DESIGNED COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS

• It cannot be authenticated

• It cannot be used as evidence in Court

• Registrars who signed such will face disciplinary action.
