LAGOS STATE LIBRARY BOARD LAW

A LAW TO PROVIDE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE LAGOS STATE LIBRARY BOARD AND FOR CONNECTED PURPOSES

[1980 NO. 24]

[Commencement]                                                 [29th September 1980]

1.      Interpretation

In this Law unless the context otherwise requires the following expression will have the meanings assigned to them-

          “books” include-

(a)     all literary works such as text books, pamphlets, maps, charts, plans  statistical tables and compilations;

(b)     dramatic and musical works;

(c)     collective works such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries year books or similar works, newspapers, magazines and similar periodicals;

(d)     any work written in distinct parts by different authors in which any part of  such works are incorporated and every part of division thereof;

(e)     all forms of sound recordings of literary merit;

“Commissioner” means the Commissioner or any person charged with  responsibility for Library Service;

“Director” means the Director of Library Service;

“Governor” means the Governor of Lagos State;

“member” means a member of the Lagos State Library Board and it includes the chairman;

“publisher” in relation to a book means any person or body of persons other than the Federal or a State Government authorising or causing the book to be printed and distributed in the State;

“State” means the Lagos State of Nigeria.
