CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA 1999, (FIFTH ALTERATION) (NO. 12) ACT, 2023 [ACT NO. 12]

AN ACT TO ALTER THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, 1999 TO PROVIDE FOR THE POST CALL QUALIFICATION OF THE SECRETARY OF THE NATIONAL JUDICIAL COUNCIL; AND FOR RELATED MATTERS.

ENACTED BY THE National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria—

1.       Alteration of the Constitution

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (in this Act referred to as “the Principal Act”) is altered as set out in this Act.

2.       Alteration of the Third Schedule

The Third Schedule to the Principal Act is amended by substituting paragraph 22 of Part 1, a new paragraph “22” — “22.   The Secretary of the Council shall be appointed by the National Judicial Council on the recommendation of the Federal Judicial Service Commission and shall be a legal practitioner of at least fifteen years post call experience”.
