CHANGE OF TITLES LAW
A law to provide for the change of official and departmental titles appearing in enactments.

1. Changes in titles of public offices
Whenever any change of any title of a public office is made, the Executive Council may by order direct that, wherever the former title may appear in the enactments in force in the State on the date of such order there shall be substituted the new title of such public office.
2. Changes in departmental, etc., titles
Whenever any change of the title of any department or Ministry or of any branch of any department or Ministry is made the Executive Council may by order direct that wherever the former title may appear in the enactments in force in the State on the date of such order there shall be substituted the new title of such department or Ministry or branch thereof.
3. Discharge of statutory functions where office not filled
(1) Where any enactment confers functions on the holder of any public office and either that office is temporarily vacant or no office of that title has for the time being been established for the Lagos State, the functions so conferred shall, until other provisions have been made, vest in the holder of such office as the State Commissioner charged with responsibility for the matters to which the functions relate may by order specify.

(2) This section shall not apply to the office of State Commissioner, Attorney-General or Auditor-General.
(3) In this section “functions” includes powers and duties.
4. Interpretation
In this Law unless the context otherwise requires –
“enactment” means any Law, order, rule, regulation, by-law or notice made or issued under any Law.
5. Citation and Commencement
This Law will be cited as the Change of Public Office Titles Law and will come into force on the 30th day of April, 1959.
